TUAREG BASKETS

These large, elegant and simply decorated baskets are handwoven by the women of the Tuareg, one of the last remaining nomadic tribes of Sahara Africa.

Each basket is dramatically punctuated with a symbolic section of indigo. The small squares dotted throughout the Points of the Day basket indicate where the weaver has stopped for the day and then started the next. The Waterfall design features a section of flowing water represented as a tapering block of indigo falling down one side of the basket, whilst the Pool design has an optimistic deep well in the centre.

Minimal, conceptual design combined with an ancient craft mean they look as good as large bowls on the table as they do hung on the wall.
